SDSU Typography 2 class collaborated with the English and Comparative Literature Department on the 'Poem Broadside' project. Our goal was to successfully design a poem in a creative and conceptual manner, utilizing the broadside format. My interpretation of the poem “A Doxology of Shadows” was an admiration for shadows, described by polarized subjects and objects.
Final Poster
I first photographed different patterns of shadows, and proceeded to lay out the poem on few of them. I selected one to finalize, and chose the typeface Baskerville for the title, because of the way its elegant form fits the poems mythical tone. I chose the secondary body typeface, Helvetica, to illustrate simplicity within the many contours, and different types of shadow.
